EndorphinGirl™ was thinking about a couple of different things to blog about. And while a few ideas surfaced, she decided on one but than thought it’s too heavy for a Friday afternoon, so she decided to go with something a bit more colorful and uplifting, at least in her opinion. The heavy topic, while she thinks is still interesting, is for another time. Well it is Friday afternoon, and EndorphinGirl™ is tired, and the heavy topic will take longer to blog so she’s going for the light and colorful - just sayin’. (Yes, EndorphinGirl™'s endorphins are a bit low today! but she's working on it!)
Today’s blog topic is definitely on the endorphin scale so there is relevance to blog about it - it is about art. And art is a happiness factor for EndorphinGirl™. And happy produces endorphins! So you get the connection.
If EndorphinGirl™ wasn’t EndorphinGirl™ she’d be ArtGirl. Yeah, it’s that serious. Well she has this secret desire to be in the art world in some way, any way. She loves art, she loves to look at it, she loves to buy it, and she loves to read about it. She was not given the gift of drawing; it skipped a generation. As bloggees have seen, the EndorphinKids are the artists in the family! So she enjoys it in other ways!
Art is particularly colorful and uplifting especially when thinking about one certain artist. Of course there are many colorful artists, but EndorphinGirl™’s choice for this colorful uplifting piece is Romero Britto. She was first exposed to Romero Britto when she was on a family cruise a number of years ago and attended the art auction onboard. Who knew they had art auctions on board cruises. She visited that auction at least twice and walked through the on-board gallery looking at the art many times. And suffice it to say she left that cruise not only with one Britto print but also with four other prints, two by Itzak Tarkay and the two other by Anatole Krasnyansky. She’ll probably blog about those artists another time, it’s Britto’s blog today. But you get the idea. She left the ship with five prints (well actually they were shipped to her home a few weeks later), but still five prints, huh! Three of the prints were actual purchases and the other two were bonus prints for purchasing one of Tarkay and Krasnyansky’s prints. Nice.
If you are familiar with Romero Britto’s artwork you get why EndorphinGirl™ thinks he is a colorful uplifting topic. A self-taught painter he is more on the pop culture-ish creative side; and in most of his pieces he uses vibrant color to display his work. EndorphinGirl’™s opinion is that you feel happy when you see his pieces, whether it’s the puckered-lip fish or the dimensional hearts or a caricature-ized Disney Mickey Mouse. It is art you feel and art that makes you feel good.
Other bloggees might recall his colorfulness from his collaboration with Andy Warhol and Keith Haring for AbsoluteVodka’s “AbsoluteArt” campaign. But beyond that he is involved in over 250 charitable situations where he uses art as a medium to make a difference whether through donations, using art as a peaceful conflict resolution, as an artist Mentor, for instance. Very cool.
The print EndorphinGirl™ purchased on the family cruise was the Britto Martini at Sunset, which is a Martini glass infused with colors and a sunset in the horizon. It looked really pretty, and it was signed by Mr. Britto himself. The print she really wanted was Atlantic Romance which is of two puckered-lip fish puckering together. That signed print however was out of the price range. Suffice it to say it was a mistake to not purchase it then because now it is off the market and at least doubled in price. So she’s on a quest to find the Atlantic Romance signed Britto print, at a reasonable price of course. And in fact she occasionally will do some Atlantic Romance fish surfing (the surfing as on the internet!) hoping to find the print! Meanwhile though she has ‘acquired’ two separate puckering-lip fish who individually sit (swim) on their respective canvas! Both are 'titled' swimmingly well . ..she didn’t just blog that did she – swimmingly well. Okay so coincidentally one is called Swimmingly Purple and the other Stripped Fish; both are signed by the artist as well. Whohoo!
If truth be told, a real piece of Britto art, such as a painted picture or sculpture is on the desired
list, but only time will
tell if that purchase materializes! Meanwhile, Britto has become a bit commercialized as his artwork is found in many ways present day, including on luggage, clothing, dishware,
accessories, he is even part of the Movado Artist Series of watches! Who knew there was such a thing. But some of this commercialization is used towards a good cause! And it is so
colorful and happy so no doubt it infuses some cheerfulness for the item buyer, whether that purchased item is a print, sock, piece of luggage or otherwise. It still creates a happy
feeling!
So while EndorphinGirl™ day dreams about art, being an artist, being in the art world, she hopes bloggees take a peek at some of Britto’s artwork and also enjoy the colorful feel they offer and even feel a little uplifted from his work – here’s a good link to explore if you'd like to ttp://www.britto.com/front/originals. And the happiness factor in looking at the art is of course good for endorphin’!
