The @asicsGel-Kinsei4 have been retired. And not because the half-marathon has already taken place. Rather the sneaks have been retired at least as far as being part of the half marathon. They were simply not living up to their expected expectations; and it was not related to the talipes cavus. After some good running, EndorphinGirl™ concluded the sneaks feel too heavy on her feet and also that they were probably a half size too small; even though the ones she purchased had already been sized up by a half size.
She certainly learns more and more about sneakers, and how the sizing does matter. Her feet were cramping in the @asicsGel-Kinsei4 especially after longer runs; and not only were her feet burning but also her metatarsalgia's were burning!
So yesterday she finally made it to Jack Rabbit ttp://jackrabbitsports.com/ where she spent 30 minutes exploring new options. At Jack Rabbit, she got to test run several pairs of recommended sneakers, was video recorded running on the tread mill in each pair, by one of the Jack Rabbit Shoe Sales Experts who checked her running style. It was also determined she does not pronate when running. Who knew!
The Jack Rabbit Shoe Sales Expert was very helpful and EndorphinGirl™ walked away with a new pair of sneaks, specifically in the possession of a pair of Air Pegasus+ 29 by Nike. She has just enough time to break them in by early May for the ‘run’. It should be noted these Nike shoes run even a bit smaller in size than some other brands so she has gone up actually not just a half size but a full size. Needless to say the sneaks are symbolic of mini boats.
Perhaps what further accentuates the size is the color. The sample pair of Pegasus+ 29 she tried on was a very dark, deep, and pretty purple; but they were a half size too small at least for running (remember these tend to run small!). The pair she ended up with is pure fuchsia. Yes, fuchsia. Like really, really, really deep, dark, bright pink! So you wonder how the glass is half full in this situation. Well here’s how. When she is running she now sees the tips of her feet because the sneaks are so large and colorful. This somehow makes her ‘stand taller’ when running. Probably because she really doesn’t want to be noticing the fuchsia sneaker tips throughout a long run; so she 'stands taller'. Well at least she is now sporting happy feet again! She jut hopes her feet stop growing!
What’s more can you imagine that after a brief conversation
about running and the interest for the new sneaks with the Jack Rabbit Shoe Sales Expert, he asked EndorphinGirl™ ‘which half she is doing’? Suffice it
to say she burst out laughing and then shared the joke with him; he had a chuckle too!
EndorphinGirl™ has started her pre-half-marathon-regiment. A few things to share. Since April first and up to run day she will i) spend at least 10 minutes every morning stretching . . . as in the yoga sort of stretching ii) hydrate, hydrate, hydrate; iii) store (preserve) energy, like a Univeristy of Michigan squirrel stores things; iv) take extra lavender Epsom salt baths and finally; v) get extra zzzzzz. Geez, sounds like she should do this all the time!
Until next time, feel free to leave a word or two in guestbook and keep on endorphin’.
