Surprise! According to dictionary.com the n. definition of
surprise is “an unexpected or astonishing event, fact or thing.” The v. definition of surprise is “(of something unexpected) cause (someone) to feel mild astonishment or shock.” Well take note,
EndorphinGirl™ experienced both the n. and the v. definition of surprise last Saturday evening.
She was excited for a fun night out that evening with Jack Steel to go to ‘the re-opening of the Water Club’ which had been closed due to Hurricane Sandy damage. Jack picked her up at 7.30 p.m. in the red bat-mobile. She was mildly [surprised] that she appeared a bit more [over-] dressed-up than Jack. He had week’s earlier suggested she wear a dress which was a clue because it was un-Jack-Steel-like to say something like that [but she was clueless] for what was in store.
They pulled up to the Water Club which was just a short distance away. Valet took control of the
red bat-mobile while EndorphinGirl™ and Jack Steel entered the premises. On the pretty balcony over-looking the stairs, were many
people.
EndorphinGirl™ assumed they were part of the ‘re-opening’ crowd. But two seconds following as the front doors
closed behind them voices shouted ‘Happy Birthday’. OMG!
The caped crusader (aka Jack Steel) along with a posse which included EndorphinGirl™’s offspring and parents had pulled off the biggest caper (i.e. ‘surprise’) in years this side of the Mississippi. Perhaps on par with what you might see in a Batman movie. (Okay, bloggees can you kindly use your imagination right now regarding the last sentence or two! J). They had all kept quiet for weeks, perhaps even months about the ‘surprise’ birthday party for EndorphinGirl™.
Okay let’s be clear, in hindsight (which really is 20/20), there were clues. But since the 'clues' came in isolation they made no sense to EndorphinGirl™. So she did not know they were clues. Yes, yes okay it’s now written twice, she was 'clueless’, but don’t get carried away with that idea, she’d argue the cluelessness is an isolated thing too!
But in fact some of the things mentioned over this period particularly by Jack Steel and
EndorphinGirl™ offspring were maybe even a bit odd to her. If truth be known, perhaps
she was even starting to worry about these people she loves. But these comments in isolation and spread so far apart, well they just didn’t really give anything away about the 'caper' they were about
to pull off. So she let them slide without any intervention!
What a night it was though. There does not seem to be any research on the affect that
surprise has on endorphins. Well let EndophinGirl™ be the first to provide real evidence that the element of surprise has a profound impact on
endorphins.
Since last Saturday evening, EndorphinGirl™ has been on a ‘high’ that is on par or really even above a runner’s high. There is simply no denying
it.
Seeing family and friends that evening was endorphin-enhancing. Carrying in her heart those who
were not
there for different reasons was endorphin-enhancing. Special words of acknowledgment by family and friends were endorphin-enhancing. Touching words by her offspring
that made EndorphinGirl™’s heart move in happy, butterfly movements was endorphin-enhancing! And a serenade by newly-trained-for-this-evening-guitar-playing Jack Steel rendered her
speechless and yes was endorphin-enhancing! Wow! Wow! Wow! Or simply stated . . . Love!
As some bloggees may have noticed this past Tuesday’s blog was quite short and dedicated to the resting
of her endorphins. Get it now? Yes, while she is on that surprise-related endorphin-high, she thought it a necessity to rest her endorphins. You see, that actual birthday day has
not yet
arrived. She is keeping a little bit of the endorphins on reserve. And next week she
will only have a short-Tuesday-blog and be on ‘birthday’ brake next Friday due to some birthday travels. She will be back on schedule after that! She hopes you will continue to stay
tuned!
Today’s image is courtesy of EndorphinDaughter™. As you may also recall from last Tuesday’s blog, EndorphinGirl™ is trying to figure out her ‘what next’ endorphin-enhancing activity. She has not yet decided, but meanwhile she will be working on what’s shown in today’s image while at the same time enjoying the continued lingering endorphin-enhancing feeling from the element of surprise!
Until next time, guest comments most welcome in guestbook and keep on endorphin’.
EndorphinGirl™
